Warehouse Leading Hand

About the role

Reporting to the Fulfilment Manager, this position is responsible for the smooth and efficient operation of our supply chain operations.  

This role requires a highly organized and proactive individual who can maintain accurate records, anticipate inventory needs, and collaborate with various teams to maintain an uninterrupted flow of raw materials and finished products.

Key Relationships

  • Reports to: Fulfillment Manager
  • Internal contacts: All YVD staff
  • External contacts: Suppliers, Local Wholesale Customers

Health, Safety & Well Being

  • Ensure that all activities are done in a manner that is safe and respectful to all people onsite (including oneself) and compliant with relevant state & federal laws
  • Particular attention is given to the safe & cautious use of forklifts

NOTE: only appropriately licensed operators may use forklifts.

Emphasis

  • Ability to work positively and autonomously towards the outcomes generally defined in the description of the role
  • Be comfortable in expressing ideas, thoughts and concerns to the Fulfilment Manager so that agreed process efficiencies & workplace improvements can be planned & implemented

Stock Control and Storage

  • Ensure adequate supplies of raw materials and finished goods to meet operational demands
  • Maintain stock levels at budgeted and agreed levels
  • Ensure timely receipt of stock; communicate when requirements cannot be met
  • Manage regular stock checks including monthly stocktakes and update inventory levels in DEAR
  • Ensure quality of received goods are as per specifications
  • Liaise with Fulfillment Manager on requirements of consumables, raw materials and packaging
  • Ensure ease of stock location
  • Limit damaged stock and prepare strategy for disposal of damaged stock and deleted stock
  • Maintain stock levels of pallets
  • Oversee inventory levels of cheese products and related supplies in the warehouse
  • Regularly update inventory records and maintain accurate stock counts

Purchasing Coordination

  • Collaborate with the Fulfillment Manager and other relevant departments to identify purchasing requirements
  • Place purchase orders for raw materials and packaging supplies in a timely manner
  • Track and follow up on purchase orders to ensure timely deliveries
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse and resolve retail problems
  • Inspect incoming shipments for quality and quantity compliance

Quality Control

  • Collaborate with the Quality Assurance team to ensure incoming and stored materials meet the required standards
  • Manage non-confirming materials and returns

Order Processing and Dispatch

  • Receive and process incoming orders from customers, ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Organize and prioritize orders for efficient dispatch to various locations
  • Prepare shipping documents, invoices, and other required paperwork for each shipment in the absence of the Administration Assistant
  • Communicate to inhouse parties when stock is not available
  • Prepare Pallet labels, load pallets and wrap to acceptable standards
  • Load refrigerated vehicles and log temperatures of vehicles upon loading
  • Maintain maintenance on forklift and YVD van

General/Other

Tasks include, but are not limited to;

  • Compile data
  • Undertake specific projects as directed – including automation
  • Structured & clean maintenance of the warehouse areas
  • Regular clearing of rubbish & recycling
  • Preparation & supply of requisites to the operational areas
    This includes the transfer of cheese, packaging, consumables to the Yarra Glen site
  • Receival, dosing and blending of canola and olive oils
  • Regular maintenance checks of forklift & van
  • Maintenance, use and cleaning of milk receival equipment & site, in accordance with YVD SOP’s
  • Close communication of milk/milk-equipment status with cheesemaking staff to ensure efficient operational flow
  • Other duties as directed

Requirements

  • Forklift Licence
  • Proficient computer skills, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic Inventory software knowledge
  • Strong organisational and multitasking ability to manage numerous varied responsibilities effectively and efficiently
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with team members, customers, and supplier
  • Detail-oriented and capable of maintaining accurate records and data
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team

Casual Production Assistants/ Factory Hands

About the role

Working alongside our team of skilled cheesemakers, the Production Assistant will be responsible for the weighing, packaging, and labelling of components, and its preparation for distribution.

At Yarra Valley Dairy, we have a fantastic team culture, and you’ll become a part of a close-knit family business, driven by quality. We offer generous cheese allowance across our range for you to enjoy, and provide training in required areas.

About You

In addition to having a LOVE for cheese, we require someone who:

  • Is available Monday to Friday, early starts.
  • Is physically fit and comfortable working in cool temperatures of the production space.
  • Has their driver’s license and own transportation.
  • Has high attention to detail.

Not compulsory, however, prior dairy and food handling experience is preferable, as is any knowledge and experience with pasteurisation or cheese making.
